July retail hours at Laurel’s gluten-free location

Here is an update on the hours for July 2010. We will be OPEN Friday, July 2 (10am – 4pm) & Saturday, July 3, 2010 (10am – 4pm) for the 4th of July weekend celebrations.

We will be CLOSED on Saturday July 17, 2010 for a family event. We will have 5″ hamburger buns throughout the summer so come in and get a bag to enjoy with your favorite BBQ burger or chicken sandwich. Enjoy!

Hello world of Gluten-Free young people! How are you? I hope your response is, “I’m good!” Anyway, I bet you know someone or you are someone who really doesn’t want to accept the fact that you can no longer eat the foods that you have grown up with and that you absolutley love. I know that it is hard sometimes. I myself am a teenage girl with friends that can eat wheat. It is hard sometimes and yes things are a little more complicated. But what happened before you were diagnosed? How did you feel? Were you sick alot or have lots of body pains? Were you just altogether uncomfortable because you were always sick? I know that all this is true for me. I had stomach aches night every night. I was home sick from school way too often. When I finally got diagnosed I have to say I was relieved. I finally had an answer to a never ending problem. All the stomach aches slowly went away and I no longer had an aching body. I grew and was taller than the boys in my grade until 8th grade. So for those people out there that have a hard time accepting the fact that you can’t eat gluten, it really is going to be okay. Now you can feel good and have a fun time with friends without having to constantly use the bathroom. Also, instead of treating this like some sort of punishment, think of it as a cure. After all, the sickness and complications will go away with the change in your diet. So, for all those people out there having a hard time coping with this, you have to live. I just want to tell you that it is going to be okay and instead of thinking about the foods your missing think about how much better you feel now that you don’t eat those foods.

New Pocket Pies from Bridge City Baking available on Saturdays

Delicious fresh fruit pies

Bridge City Baking is new to the Portland area but not new to delicious gluten-free food. These pies are made with fresh ingredients and are delicious! They come in flavors: Apple, Pear Ginger, Hood River Blueberry, Date Pecan (available for a short time), Tart Cherry Chocolate Almond, Pineapple Macaroon. There is talk about Marionberry being added to the line, will keep you posted.

These are available Saturdays at Laurel’s, 8172 SW Durham Road, Tigard, OR 97224 during retail hours from 10am – 4pm while supplies last. The pies are made in a different facility as our facility is nut free.

Come in and check them out! They are also available at Lamb’s Thriftway – Strohecker’s location in Portland.

Yes, they are gluten-free!! (they do contain dairy, eggs and nuts)

Drop in to the Stash Tea Retail store for great holiday gift ideas. The staff is great at making up fabulous gift baskets. Mixes available for the gluten-free are Chocolate Chip Cookie, Honey Grahamless, Chocolate Dream Brownies, Roll Em Out Sugar Cookies and the Delightful Scone Mix.
